Third Thursday Thoughts, 23rd Edition
By Tori Piechocniski
As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s a time for us to pause and reflect on the things we can be grateful for in our careers. Whether we are currently working, in between positions, or planning our next move, there are always reasons to appreciate the journey and the opportunities for growth that come with it.
From our very first job to our current position, it’s been a road of continuous learning. Every employ offers opportunities for growth and knowledge. Each experience, whether positive or challenging, provides valuable lessons that shape us professionally. Embracing these teachable moments allows us to develop new skills, expand our knowledge, and become better equipped for future opportunities.
Throughout our careers, we form relationships through interacting with a wide range of colleagues and clients. Each offer with their own unique perspectives and contributions. These interactions help us grow both personally and professionally. The positive relationships we cultivate create a supportive and enjoyable work environment, while the challenging experiences teach us valuable lessons about ourselves and how we want to be perceived.
Gratitude extends to the financial stability and rewards that come with our careers. The ability to support our chosen lifestyle, save, and enjoy downtime, contributes to our overall well-being. Employers that recognize the value of their employees often offer market value salaries, and improved benefits, acknowledging their employee’s commitment and dedication.
Having a sense of fulfillment in our careers often stems from aligning with an employer’s culture and mission. Feeling grateful for the opportunity to contribute to something meaningful, gives us purpose and motivates us to excel further. It’s also important to recognize that receiving gratitude is also essential. By acknowledging the impact of gratitude on both the giver and the receiver, we can cultivate a culture of appreciation that fosters positivity and growth within our careers and relationships.
Our jobs and careers consume a significant portion of our lives. It’s essential to have a healthy work-life balance that contributes to our overall well-being which allows us to appreciate the time spent outside of work. If your current work environment lacks positive aspects, it may be time to consider creating a plan to improve the situation or explore new opportunities.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let us take the time to reflect on our careers and express gratitude for the opportunities, growth, and fulfillment they provide. Whether we are currently content or seeking improvement, let us be thankful for the lessons learned, the relationships formed, and the chance to make a positive impact. May this reflection encourage us to create fulfilling and meaningful careers that bring us happiness and gratitude.
Marcum LLP and its affiliate companies have a strong giving culture, as exemplified by their Firm-wide Annual Day of Service. On this day, November 22nd, the company’s offices close, and employees volunteer with local community organizations.
