Marcum Search LLC has built a solid reputation for assisting clients in recruiting and staffing throughout the year. Perhaps because we breathe that same air as our accounting firm parent group, Marcum LLP, we often find ourselves helping clients to identify top talent for accounting/finance roles.

Uniquely, some of the client firms that engage Marcum Search are also public accounting firms outside of Marcum LLP.

In the past, we had noticed a trend that said that recruiting for tax positions was the opposite of busy season for accounting firm clients.

However, that trend seems to have changed as the job market matures and the hunt for qualified talent accelerates even during the traditional busy tax season. We’ve learned that colleges and universities have seen a fall-off in students that declare Accounting as their major field of study. At the same time, the baby boomer accountants are realizing that retirement is right around the corner if it hasn’t already led them on that golden path.

Combined, this current reality puts CPA firms on notice to not only retain employees, but to increase the depth and seasons of hiring strategies.

We’ve heard from a few of our Associate Resource Groups that as business, CPA firms will need to get the word out to the pre-college level that if you “become an accountant, you will never be unemployed.”

Simultaneously, our squad of about 45 team members at Marcum Search are not slowing down either. They are active on two fronts: identifying candidates for clients AND answering the needs of current and prospective client companies. Then, there are those individuals that are job seekers and on our job listings site, www.marcumsearch.com/jobs, there are about 250 advertised roles nationwide. Nothing slow around here!
