Employee Spotlight – Shaina Sutton

Tell us a little about yourself….
I was born and raised in Delaware, and then moved to Philly where I started my career as a tax accountant, and got my CPA, before transitioning into recruiting. Last year I moved back to Delaware and just got an adorable cockapoo puppy named Arlo!

How has your career grown since starting at Marcum Search?
It’s only been a few short months since I merged into the firm in September, but it has been great to have a large network of colleagues to work along side of and to expand my knowledge by recruiting on new types of roles that I had never encountered in the past.

My favorite quote is…
“I am ready to face any challenge that might be foolish enough to face me.” – Dwight Schrute

Three words to describe myself…
Cheerful, dependable, optimistic

My perfect day is…
Spending the day at the beach in the sun and ocean, going home for a cool shower and nap, and ending it with some pizza and games with friends.

Advice for my 16 year old self…
Don’t be afraid to fail, you will learn lessons along the way!

Number 1 on my bucket list…
Travel to Australia and go sky diving.

The person who had the biggest impact on my life is…
My mom, she always made sure I had everything I could ever want growing up. Looking back now I realize it must have been hard at times, but she never showed it!

In my career I am most proud of…
I am proud that as soon as I discovered being an accountant wasn’t the career I wanted to stay in, I immediately reflected on what aspects of a job would make me happy, and fell in love with recruiting! It’s never too late to make a job change, but I am proud that I found what I love early on, and wasn’t afraid to make the jump.

A funny or memorable experience from your career or personal life?
In high school I got to participate in an exchange program with students in Greece where we got matched with a student and they came to live with us for 2 weeks, and then a year later we got to go to Greece and live with them for 2 weeks! It was extremely memorable to not only go to Europe for the first time, but to actually live with a local family.
